Matthew 5:17-18 " Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. 18 For
verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall
in no wise pass from the law, till all
be fulfilled."
Mark 12:29-30 "And
Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The
Lord our God is one Lord: 30 And thou
shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with
all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first
commandment."
God's ten
commandments stand today because God will never change. But, He gave us Jesus
as our testament who came and fulfilled the law. How did Christ fulfil the ten
commandments?
Deuteronomy 5:1-21
God's
Commandments & Jesus' Fulfilment
1.
Have no other God besides God.
Jesus
demonstrated full commitment to His Father (John 8:49)
2.
Take not God's name in vain.
Jesus honoured His Father in heaven (Matt 5:33-37)
3.
Keep the sabbath day to
sanctify it.
Jesus sanctified the sabbath by setting people free, giving them rest from
their sin, bondage, sickness and restlessness (Mark 2, Luke 6:5-10, Luke 13:10-16)
4.
Honour thy father and thy
mother.
Jesus honoured his father and mother and was subject to
them (Luke 2:51-52)
5.
Do not kill.
Jesus did not kill anyone but brought life to all (Matthew 20:28, John 10:10-11)
6.
Do not commit adultery.
Jesus had no immorality in Him but set the adulterous
woman and many harlots free (John 8:1-11)
7.
Do not steal.
Jesus came to restore our stolen life and peace (John 10:10, Matthew 18:11)
8.
Bear not false witness against
your neighbour.
Jesus was never a false witness (John
3:1-10)
9.
Do not covet Your neighbour's
wife.
Jesus never dishonoured but blessed marriage and forbade adultery (Matthew 5:27-32)
10. Do not covet your neighbour's goods.
Rather Jesus gave and gave and
gave- He gave money to
the poor, He gave healing, He gave deliverance, He fed
the hungry, He gave His life (Matthew 20:27-28)
At the cross, Jesus gave His
life to authenticate fulfilment of the commandments of God so that as many of
us as are carriers of JESUS' life also carry the fulfilment of God's
commandments. Christ in me is the hope of a glorious fulfilment of all God's
laws.
ü Lord
Your laws are righteous. Thank You for the ten commandments that showed us Your
mind and the life You accept. Help me to know that Your ten commandments are
still valid today and that You will not back down on Your standard. Please
reveal Your heart to me.
ü Father God I Thank You for giving us JESUS to
fulfil Your laws. We have hope. Our lives too can please You like our Master's
life pleased You. Thank You.
ü Lord
Jesus thank You for the mystery that brought You in the flesh. You came to save
me so that my life can please the Father like Yours did. Thank You.
God’s ten
commandments stand today
For God will never change
But gave us Christ our testament
Who came fulfil the law.
No longer I but Christ in me
Fulfilling all God’s laws
His love made perfect in my heart
His Love fulfils the law.
